You really can't. Read July 2005 Cosmo. There's an article in there about it and experienced psychologists even recommend in the article to not stir up more problems than necessary. But if you feel like it might happen again or if you want to continue your affair, then you do need to say something and get help and/ or get out of the situation.

Haven't you ever read the advice columns like Dear Abby? They all say--correctly--NOT to tell your husband. You shouldn't have done it in the first place, regardless of what excuse you give, so what makes you think he's going to believe it and forgive you? If you want to confess it's only to make yourself feel better and absolve yourself of blame and guilt. Go to your spiritual advisor and ask how you can forgive yourself for making a mockery of your marriage and be a better wife. Go for counseling if you need to work on marital issues. If a woman thinks she can confess to her husband without hurting him "too much" she's a sadist at heart because every time he looks at her--or they are intimate--he's going to picture her with that guy. There will be endless questions of how long did the affair last, who was it (hopefully no one he knows), was he better than I am, and on and on ad nauseum. You'll get tired of him bringing it up--if he doesn't leave you first--and more marital problems will result. The old saying, "i will forgive you, but I won't forget" rings through in adultery.

First of all; You never should have had an extra-marital affair! If you no longer love this man,you should have gotten a divorce FIRST! Now that damage is done...There is no easy way to tell him....My advice is to tell him he deserves better than you..And give him some space to let him heal! He will find someone else eventually...and maybe she will treat him with the respect he deserves!

She can't. It'll crush him regardless. Same way a woman feels about the so-called "dogs" that are out here. Karma's a mother, and the cheater, male or female, will learn.

She does not say a word.

She wants to confess to make herself feel better, but it will only cause him unnecessary pain.
