I obviously don't mean all americans, but the feeling of antagonism toward anything not american is on the up in America today. This is not the america I have known for years before I moved out in 2000.

Only since last year have I heard of soccer-haters, un-american, 'we don't care what the world says' in America. This is not to say Americans should't be proud to say they are Americans, but many are showing this pride in how different they are and better than non-Americans. Seems nothing is wrong with that, but not so to me if you accept the special place of America in the world - as a leader, land of hope and love.

Do you have a feeling some people are about fanning the flames of nationalism (may be 'nationalcentricism' if the word exists) in America? Nationalcentricism is a clear sign a country has lost a bit, if not more, of what used to make it great.

I don't know but I knew a different America.

No I think there've always been people like that here.. there just wasn't the technology of the internet and computers before. Now every idiot can access the internet to voice their opinions and try to speak for all of us. :)

I do not believe that americans dislike the rest of the world, americans make up a big portion of the money being spent travelling over seas and to many places around the world. When the world soccer cup began many were very enthusiastic about watching it especially when they saw that the american team was doing ok but once they were out i heard comments like " referees were out to get us" and the rest of the world cannot stand us" then i heard a ridiculous comment from that creepy guy Jimmy Kimmel. these are not his exact words but pretty close " when is this world soccer going to end?" lets get back to real football" meaning of course american football. That was pretty stupid. i honestly believe that the reason many americans have an issue with the world cup soccer is because they were at no point and time the center of attention, this was not a world issue that was soley focused on them and they were pretty much no where to be found and nobody missed them either. so taking a back seat to the greatest sporting event in history besides the olympics is not something that americans can accept. Soccer is a world sport it was the most watched event in the world and their is still one more game to go. America has a good soccer team and Americans should be proud of them but when it comes to an event like this though everyone has a favorite team this is a time where people come together for the love of the greatest sport in the world. a little adjustment of attitude and they should be fine:-) God Bless America!!!!

No, but the world is becoming anti-American. Countries that are poor because of their decisions and corruption can score points by blaming the US for every problem they face. This tactic has been used by leaders for years. A lot of people resent the fact that the US is prosperous and the freedom's that we enjoy.

I've traveled a lot and greatly appreciate other countries and cultures, but I do take special pride in America and the benefits we bring to the world.

Yes and No.
Pro world in a sense that Americans want to spread free market and democracy.
Anti world in a sense that what UN is trying to for the world.

We've always been proud, and we have always thumbed our noses at Europe and the rest of the world. We have never been subject to international opinion-we don't cater to anyone. And when the other nations get into trouble, who do they call?

We are the country the world loves to hate...until they get hit by something.

And perhaps alot of attitudes did change on 9/11. Our world changed forever when those a$$holes attacked us. It was a kick in the guts. So many, though, have forgotten-since the media doesn't show it on tv. Anyway...I think we are fiercely embracing what we feel the terrorists tried to take from us.

So in short, you don't have to like it, you don't have to live here. (But we'd love you to stay :-) )

I knew a different America growing up too. We're failing miserably in every aspect of our society. Liberalism has destroyed education and parenting. Those two things are the very root of our society. And we've been verbally kicked so many times by people around the globe who we rush in to help, that quite frankly, it's gotten to be more than I care to deal with. Right now, I'd love nothing more than to see this country pull out of all support for every other nation, re-focus on what is wrong here, help ourselves to reclaim what once was, and let the rest of the world take care of itself for awhile. They don't seem to appreciate the abundance of good we do, so let them live without us for awhile.

I hate soccer, but it is only because it is a dull sport. I hate golf too, and many consider that an "American" sport.
