This list could go on forever. I am a serious book addict. Right now, my favorite authors are Kim Harrison, Jacquline Carey, Dawn Cook and Christine Feehan.
My all time fav author is Charlotte Bronte. Favorite Poet - that's a big tie between Blake and Byron. Jack London fits in there somewhere as the manliest writer I can stand to read. And of course, Edgar allen Poe, a creator and stylist of so many stylists
Librarything.com is the best place for bookaholics in search of fellow addicts, new writers and friends!

Larry Niven. He is well respected in his field, and he writes true Science Fiction, with engaging stories and scientific facts. He was also saying that Stephen Hawking was a great man in the 1970's. Finally, he writes for the fun of it. He was already rich, so he didn't need the money. He just wants to spin a good yarn. Science Fiction is the hardest field to write in, the tale must be good fiction and based in science. In that way it's like the CSI shows; a good detective story that requires scientific means to get the clues. That is how true Science Fiction is; not that cra_p that Hollywood keeps churning out.
After that I like Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlien
and Issac Asimov
