A lot of people may say they are testing these missiles because they are crazy. But I think the real reason may be that they are trying to do this as a form of bargaing. What I mean is that they have seen, like the rest of the world, the incentive package we offered the Iranians to stop their proliferation of missiles and nuclear tech. To put it bluntly, the North Koreans are starving to death. And they know that since China does not want instability on their border they will not allow the US or the UN for that matter(China holds veto power on the Security Council) to do anything beyond the smallest of sanctions.

It’s no surprise that the country Kim runs is highly militarized. In 1958, Dwight Eisenhower introduced nuclear weapons to the South--in violation of the terms of the 1953 armistice. Every president since then has planned to use nuclear weapons against North Korea in case of war--because the North would be unable to respond.
Right wingers today complain about the North’s deadly missiles and artillery, plus its 700,000 troops, stationed just 60 miles from Seoul. But they leave out the rest of the equation. The U.S. has 37,000 troops in the South and 65,000 more in nearby Japan. The nuclear-armed Seventh Fleet lies offshore, and 540,000 U.S.-armed South Korean troops are stationed 60 miles from Pyongyang.

N.korea is trying to be a "world power" they are actually just on the verge of being a third world country. Their thinking is " If we can be a nuclear power and have missles that can reach all points of the globe..... people will listen to us...... So far, they got the attention..... but they should have never have launched those missles because they failed.

Because missile technology is a source of pride and because the US has never invaded a country that actually has WMD. By demonstrating they have abilities to deliver WMD, they ensure their own sovereignty.

I truly believe this is to get attention in order for them to get what they need or want! We as America have taken a quick look at them despite the war in Iraq and this is a bargaining tool for them to use even with Japan. Japan is very upset with this issue but as far as further action..I hope not!! 6,000 miles is far from our west coast but not too far from our American troops around that area!

Because they haven't received enough attention lately. Kim Jong Ill is like a spoiled little brat, a high maintenance one at that.

Because unlike the USA they don't have a lot of chances to 'test' stuff out and make sure it works.
