MAN U got a big lift when Beckham played there and used his popularity along with the success they had. They were already a very good club but they suddeny jumped to the scene surpassing Real Madrid, BArcelona and Milan in terms of financial powers too. At this point of course Chelsea seems to have the financial part covered but from jersey sales alone MAN U takes the lead.
And by the way Man U is also owned by the owner of Tampa Bay American) and sponsored by AIG (American company) therefore there is more hype in the US about them

During sometime Manchester United was the riches club in the world. You can say they were the NY Yankees of soccer. They are always playing in the big tournaments. Oh, and for a few years, David Beckham played for Manchester United before he left for Real Madrid.

they dominated english football for 10 years, they will have won the hearts of a whole generation, so all the hangers on that support a team because they are winning went with man u.. if chelsea dominate for the next 10 years.. they will then have a bigger fan base, liverpool nearly did it, but did not quite dominate for 10 years, then there was the munich air disaster, which made them famous and popular, and Made all neutrals want them to win, because busby rebuilt the team, and then there was george best. I personally dont like man u, they think they have the right to win...they dont.

Coz they are the best in the world! Hey, someone answered that Beckham played for a FEW years, before going to RM. ManU is Beckham's childhood (home) club. He learned footbal there!
