Absolutely there are many world class athletes who are openly gay, probably even more who have chosen not to come out yet.
Tennis - Martina Navratalova, Bille Jean King
NFL - Esera Tuaolo, Roy Simmons
Swimming - Greg Louganis
WNBA - Sheryl Swoopes

Sure, there are lots of them. (I assume you mean pro athletes.)
Unfortunately, some 'christians' and others choose to discriminate against them and even commit violence against them, so many of them remain closeted until they are out of pro sports. Can you believe some people even campaign against them being able to get married!?!
If you're talking about the average jogger or softball player, the % that are athletes is the same as in the non-gay world.

Does it matter. Would you still cheer for their team if they were winning the SUPER BOWL or The WORLD SERIES?
I think that people need to stop looking at sexual orientation and be more concerned by the type of person someone is and what they have contributed to the community.

There are lots of them...some olympic medal winners ...some not...why do you ask? gay people are just like straight people in sports.

Usually they prefer sports like gymnastics, figure skating, and cycling (road).
