That is the age old battle I don't know any one who has not gone thr that at some time w/ a parent. Just try to meet in the middle. You mom is just trying to not let you look skanky or like a slob, or a home less persron. It also depends how old you are if you live at home or not and if SHE is buying the clothes.

Well here is an opinion from a mom's point of view...which you might not want anyway lol. Depending on how old you are....your mom might be trying to help you learn appropriate dress for when your grown up. It is amazing how many young girls/women do not know how to to dress appropriately for work etc. They think that wearing "cool" clothes ie: belly shirts, tank tops, attitude tee shirts etc are acceptable. Maybe you could compromise with your mom, wear appropriate clothing at the appropriate times and then maybe she will slack off and let you wear your own style of clothing some of the time.

From what you wrote, i think you are saying that your style is not preppy, but your mom thinks you are. Who cares what she thinks? Whats a tease about your style that you're preppy, especially from your mom? At least shes not saying you look like a slut or something. And it's a good thing that she thinks your preppy, meaning she likes what you're wearing right? At least she accepts what you are wearing

Try to work towards a compromise:

Maybe her style in your colors?

If you like a little punk. It can be a button up and twills but maybe you want a black button up in red plaid twills with a studded belt.

It's still modest, it's not inappropriate, but it has some flavor.

Or if you like bohemian she can pick the skirt a sweater set, but you pick the colors and accessories. So you pick a crinkle linen skirt and an earthy brown sweater with wood jewelry.

It is still "new" and not too hippie for her, but you don't feel too out of place at the coffee shop.

Think along those lines. If you give a little more on holidays that are important to her, like Christmas and Easter maybe she will give a little bit more on Halloween and concerts.

Hope that helps.

U should just b urself and if ur mom makes u wear prep stuff

she shouldn't have a problem with u not wearing preppy stuff because if the clothes r a good price, good quaility then u can go with any style. just give her time

Depends on your defintion of preppy. Maybe she just wants you to look put together. That is always a good thing.

Try this at home with su mom:
Mom, if I get an A in spelling, can I wear what I want?

And your mom will laugh her A off because she'll know you'll never EVER get an A in spelling!! SHE'S GONNA BE DRESSING YOU TIL YOU'RE 80

Talk to her about...don't argue or fight...talk to her about it, maybe while on a walk with her or just in a nice calm manner.
