I can only speak for myself. And while I typically do not give people **** for bad grammar, I can tell you that it is annoying as all get out.
We all realize that it is "just shortenin down the words", however, this is a scourge....laziness should never replace grammar and spelling. We are civilized people, and in order to communicate effectively, it helps when you put down your entire thoughts, rather than using Blackanese or Ebonics. I personally cannot stand it. Why is it so hard to add an H to "wat" in order to spell "what?" Its one little step, and it makes you appear that much more intelligent than the rest of the morons around you.
Thats my two cents!

I'm not sure if certain countries use the 'text ' speak (i often slip into it and correct it) it also looks lazy when using it on here and in an email where you have the word space (characters) to type your message properly, whereas in a phone text you have less characters so using text speak on there is more appropriate, whereas here not so much, hope this helps

I realise it may be an age thing, but I think it is ignorant and rude to use text speak for anything other than texts.
If you cannot be bothered to type the whole message, don't bother. However that is your choice, and if you had not asked the question I would not have brought it up. I certainly would not attack you for it.

Many Americans used abbreviations in text messaging too. The problem is that we're starting to see young folks over here use that style of communication in other arenas as well. E-mails, chat room posts, notes, and even school papers are starting to appear with greater amounts of poor spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It makes the writer appear unintelligent.
I think it's terrific that you have a good command of English and that you use abbreviations simply to save time. The problem is that many of our kids don't perceive the abbreviations as just time-savers. They view them as appropriate substitutes for correctly written communication. I try to limit my use of abbreviations as much as possible to encourage children who read my writing to use correct English.
I'm sorry folks have been rude to you. That's never appropriate, regardless of the communication style being used.

Kids do that here in the US as well, but it comes across as though the person is either trying to act "two kewl fer werds", or they're not smart enough to hit the "check spelling" button. Since the only way to communicate here is via the typewritten word, to me it makes sense to do it in a clear manner.

I think you should keep doing what you feel like doing. If I understand it then it's no big deal how it's written. Although, when I can't understand what I'm reading then I get frustrated and stop reading. I think in your situation since you speak a different dilalect than Americans do, some of your lingo may not be well understood. So, if you say "frock" we say "dress", or you say "***" and we'll say "cigarette" or whatever...does that make sense?

I much prefer to see fully spelled out words too. I'm getting on a bit and can't decipher some text language.
It's a bit snobby, I know, BUT it makes you seem more educated and classy if you use language properly.
Love from an old fa*t. :)

It is ignorant and rude for people to say offensive things to you. I personally would rather have the words spelled out though, I don't the them shortened.
