What is middleschmetrz?

Rumor has it that it has something to do with the sensation of ovulating

It's "Mittelschmerz" and it refers to the pain on one side of the lower abdomen about half way through the menstrual cycle... so yes, it's pain during ovulation. From what I read on it, it's not a big deal.
