sure can.....if you mow your grass as high as your mower deck will go eventually you will have very little weeds...insects in the ground have their reasons for being there also....i only get rid of weeds/grass in flower beds and veggie garden....i even let snakes live and know where some of their homes are..when i mow/weedeat and see a snake i will goose it to make it move...
the so called perfect lawn kills to many things....why waste money on obtaining that look when the money canbe used for better things...every year you have to repeat the same things over and over just to obtain that look...why not just fertilize and keep it mowed?
what does the so called perfect lawn get you?
that is what i dont understand
it may look nice but to me it is a huge waste of money
need to quit rambling...this topic can get me fired up because i have these neighbors that everything is in rows all neat and orderly where as mine looks more natural....trees are where ever i wanted to put them and all that other stuff..i prefer the natural look....where in a huge field are you gonna see grass with no weeds??

I certainly could; that has always been a big issue with me. But I live in an area that has a home owner's association, and they set certain standards for the appearance of your property, among other things. I stopped using pesticides and other chemical treatments one year, and by the next year my lawn looked pretty rugged. It didn't bother me, but it bothered my neighbors. So I had to take care of it. Many times we are obligated to do things we'd rather not do because the majority rules.

pesticides are used for 2 main reasons the first is bugs, you could try natural remedies to rid yourself of these types of pests. the second reason is for weed control, here is the secret seed, seed, seed, if there is no exposed soil and the grass is super dense the weed seeds will find it very hard to grow. and get a good quality brand of seed, cheaper ones might also have weed seeds as well and by doing the seed trick you end up with the best looking lawn around with out pesticides and strong fertilizers.

Yes I could.
What is the point in having a lawn unless you entertain on it or have kids or pets that play on it? I realize that it makes us feel cooler to have grass around. But think of how much work it takes to keep it; mowing every week, tons of water, etc. I would miuch prefer to have perennials, roses and flowers than a lawn any day.
It is sad that people feel the need to have a lawn to compete with their neighbors or because "that's how a front yard is supposed to be", or has always been, or homeowners associations that dictate how your garden should be.
Sorry for the rant.

Yeah i could.. but i dont have to use pesticides to have a great lookin lawn.. i can use natural alternatives.. such as compost.. that would naturally fertilize the lawn and make it look heathier than it would of not using nothing..

I could but my neighbors wouldn't be able to live with such a nonstandard lawn. They would secretly administer the chemicals to my lawn while I wasn't around.

You can use an organic program, it will just take a very long time to get rid of weeds. Check out www.turfdoctorinc.com.
