Book first, then the movie. Although, I think sometimes you set yourself up for disappointment that way. A lot of times I envision scenes in the book differently, or they don't even make it into the movie, and they're sometimes my favorite part!

Depends in the case of the Harry Potter series after watching the third movie and found out that that ending of that movie was really in the middle of the book . That got me thinking that I better read the rest of the books in the series to get a better idea of what the series is like because I found movie to book four not that good because the screen writers for the movie and the director and producer didn't do a good job of adapting that book onto the movie screen. Otherwise I try and read the book first before I see the movie.

I always watch the movie first, maybe once or twice, depending on the storyline, then i read the book, because then you can start understanding the movie but also get more information out of the book (and it helps to visualize the character which i always have a hard time doing) oh, and because if you read the book first, the movie will never seem as good ..

Usually, I prefer to read the books first if I can help it. Rule of thumb is that the books are almost always better than the movies. There are exceptions but not a lot. Sometimes I see a movie before I see the book and I don't realize the movie was based on a book, and sometimes like with Lord of the Rings, I didn't want to read those, they're complicated to read, so I saw the movies instead. But mainly, I like to read the book first. It's your own vision of the place, not someone else's.

Usually read the book and wait for the movie on DVD so that I don't waste my money or time or frustration on a bad adaptation. The only movies that came close lately were the Lord of the Rings (not my favorite books) and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Half the time Hollywood can't even follow a comic book, which is basically a print form of a motion picture!

I prefer to read the book first. However, the draw back is that it usually spoils the movie because in a book you can get into a characters head better than in a movie. And the movie concentrates more on visual effects and stuff.

I like to read the book first so when I see the movie I can compare the two.

I like to see the movie first. If I read the book first, I won't be able to enjoy the movie. The book is aways better.
Also, if it's a book I'm not sure about, the movie will give me clues as to whether I want to read the book or not.

I love reading the book and then maybe seeing the movie. BUT I must admit after becoming a parent I have no time to read books and hope that they make a movie!

I prefer to read the book first then watch the movie, but I've done the opposite many times. So, it doesn't always matter.

Book before movie... You will get a lot better understanding of the movie if you read the book.
