A City Mayor is the leader of the city (like the Governor of a State). The Mayor leads the council in making decisions for the city. You need to find what you are for and against and either join a party or be independent. Meet people, go to civic functions, understand the politics of the city...build yourself a base.

You cannot run if a convicted felon (at least in many cities, towns or villages).

It is absolutely amazing how many people THINK they know what they are talking about....yet answer these questions without having a brain.

YES....you are NOT forbidden for running for public office. Getting successfully elected is another issue all together. Out of 50 states, only 7 do NOT accept felons as candidates. Three states out of the remaining 43 that allow felons require that the candidate has completed all probationary and parole functions before registering as a candidate.

FYI - MARION BARRY was convicted of buying, selling and distributing crack cocaine. His case was pled down to several lesser charges...but was re-elected as mayor AFTER two small convictions.
