How much time does it take? I'm watching the live stream (http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com) and it seems as though it only takes an hour or so for them to go in and out of light! Please let me know! I'm curious!

The current speed of the shuttle/ISS docked is 17247 MPH. I've been watching the speeds over the past two days and I think the speeds for the ISS and the shuttle have been about the same undocked. You can track the two here:

It orbits at 17,500 miles per hour. It takes about 90 minutes to make one orbit, so that is 45 minutes in daylight and 45 minutes of night each orbit.

I watched it with my eyes and it needed about 10 minutes from horizon to horizon ..... was an impressive experience in winter 2005 given to me in the "Long Night of Astronomy" at the Mannheim/Germany radiotelescope of Peter Wright .... he even could talk with the astronauts from the radiotelescop station

not exactly sure.. but it is more than 17, 000 mph. Is that close enough? At that speed it would take about 5 hours to circle the globe.
