My stomach acid is making me cough and sick all the time. I drink milk and take indigestion tablets but its been going on fo 3 years now. When I went to the doctors she gave me a blood test and said it shows no sign of abnormality. Any ideas anyone??

A normal blood test will not indicate triggers for your condition. You may need a scope down into your stomach to check it out. Some of us weak stomach types do produce lots of acid which can be temporarily relieved by taking antacids, sleeping with quite high pillows to stop any reflux (which can make you feel sick) and eating lots of regular small meals. If you are experiencing this high level acid over a long period this can be damaging the lining of your stomach making you prone to ulceration. It may be that you need something like ranitidine (trade mark) to stop the excess acid and allow some healing.

Get a second opinion tomorrow. You should not be tolerating your condition.

Good luck.

Stomach Acid Making Me Sick

I think you should insist on more tests. It sounds like you may have
GERD. If you're just taking indigestion meds like Tums or Rolaids, you could try Prilosec which is over the counter or Nexium or Aciphex which are prescription. These meds actually stop the production of acid. I've recently had to start taking Nexium and am feeling much better. Hope you will find some help for your problem soon.

Please dont neglect this condition. I did and ended up with a third of a stomach and a gullet formulated from the other two thirds. Let me explain. I had a faulty valve, the acid migrated up the gullet and ulcerared it. It then turned to cancer and hence the operation. I now sleep on an elevated bed and take Nexium 20mg every 12 hours. If I fail to take the Nexium I cough continuously. My brother in Australia had a similar experience with acid reflux took my advice and now takes Nexium once a day. See another doctor. P.S. The acid hits the VEGUS NERVE hence the coughing.

Zantac 75 is great and provides up to 12 hours relief by neutralising the stomach acid. Tesco also have a product called Rantidine ( I think) which is just as effective and half the price.

i had exactly the same thing a few weeks back, firstly you should be sent for an endoscopy (a thin tube with camera fed through your mouth to your stomach to look for stomach inflamation) secondly you need a second opinion as your doctor sounds useless, if this thing has been affecting you for 3 years its your doctors job to find the cause not just you a bottle of pills, a blood test and send you on your way, and also the blood test may show nothing as not everything can be detected in a blood test, and yor doctor should know this, hope you feel better soon.

It sounds like acid reflux to me. Do the milk & Tums, etc. help? If so, then you may have to start watching what you eat and how much. If I overdo it a bit, I get acid reflux and heartburn. I also have been eating that special yogurt from Dannon and it seems to be helping with all of my digestive problems.

I have the same problem. I think its that the passage to your stomach is somehow not functioning.. The stomach acid is coming up. Gaviscon liquid helps but really you need to go the hospital to get it fixed. If it is that? It sure does sound like what i had.
