A: Searching through about a dozen medical journal articles and a number of web sites resulted in a rather wide range of statistics. Basically the odds of success are reported to be just under 6 percent and as high as 26 percent per cycle. The low statistics are with one follicle, while multiple follicles resulted in as high 26 percent success. Another influencing factor is sperm count. Higher sperm counts increase the odds of success; however, there was little difference between success with good-average counts and those with high counts. The overall success rate seems to be between 15-20 percent per cycle, judging from the articles which will be abstracted below. The rate of multiple gestation pregnancies is 23-30 percent.

I actually went to an RE this morning, and they said the success rate for each IUI cycle is only 10%. That's with everything else being normal. I'm not sure with PCOS.

Hi, it's been quite a while since I've been that route, but I had aproximately 6 attempts at IUI back in the early 90's, but no success with that. Of course, I also had 3 attempts at IVF at the Jones Clinic in Norfolk and no luck with that either.
I'm lucky though, I went a different route and figured if high tech couldn't work for me, maybe something more natural, so I went to a homeopath. Within 3 months of that, I was pregnant with my first son.
Good luck, I know it's not easy, but you have to have faith.

The success rates for IUI is estimated to be about 15 to 20%. I have had 1 failed IUI. Are you taking any meds?

I went though IUI a total of six times. Five of them were to conceive my first child. I do not have PCOS, but have a host of other fertility issues. Eventually, my RE found the right combination of meds to help me conceive through IUI. The second child was conceived on the first try. However, my RE told me that his job was to try and restore my odds of conceiving to that of a "normal" women (one who did not need fertility assistance). I believe he told me that the odds of a woman conceiving in any given month is about 22%. I wish you much success!
