The saddest thing that people overlook: A lot of people who are against "gay marriage", have reached a point where they are okay with civil unions. It's become a semantic argument, generally speaking.

What's missing is when you create a two-tier system for marriage, THEN you degrade marriage. When you have marriage and marriage-lite, you have damaged the institution.

Allowing those who want in and are asking to play by the same rules strengthens marriage. When something is under greater demand, that "something" becomes worth more, not worth less.

Massachusetts has allowed gay marriage for a year. They remain the richest per capita state in the nation. They still are one of the three top educated states in the nation. It didn't fall into the Atlantic and they didn't get hit by a hurricane.

Those who argue against fail to separate their religion from government and have no capability of doing otherwise. LEGALLY, there is no good argument against it.

NOTE TO ASKTHEPIZZAGUY:

No offense, and you can have whatever opinion you want, but you're a lying sack of sh!t. That is singularly directed and not to others who are against gay marriage (a legitimate opinion - even if I disagree). Even if one set of parents has committed a crime, it doesn't make it right for you to make such a salacious claim.

Here in Indiana, a gay male was prevent from adopting the sister of the boys he was already caring for because the girls step-parents made a big media hubbub about it. Shortly thereafter he was arrested for molesting that very girl. So am I to conclude that all straight people who take in foster children do so because they want to rape them? No. For crap's sake, grow up and debate like a man and don't make up insults that make you look like an idiot child. Use facts, not moronic generalizations. You're a shameful person for doing that, and a pathetic one for believing what you say.

It doesn't affect me personally yet. It would affect my grandchildren and this country. The morals of this GREAT NATION are at stake here. If we let gays get married then anyone will have the right. Fathers marrying daughters, Brothers and Sisters, Animals and humans. Think about it If you let some people do it then who will have the right to say no to anyone or anything! GOD created Man for WOMAN so they can create babies. To make it simple for ya:
GOD created Adam and Eve not Adam and STEVE!
There are some things in life that are not to be changed and that's one of them!
Its not normal to have sex with the same sex and it cause aids and other diseases.
No matter how much you people argue about it, it will never be right and never be accepted!

If it is enacted into law by the elected representatives of the people, then, what can I do?

If it is forced down our throats by 5 tyrants in black dresses (judges), then I'm getting my gun. And some rope.

But I see no compelling reason for society to abandon the concept of marriage and family that has been the basic building block of society, culture and civilization.

And the feel-good belief that it doesn't harm regular marriage is belied by the findings in Scandanavia and the Netherlands. Regular marriages nose-dived, with the ancillary issues of more children born to unwed parents and the increase in single-parent households, with all the attendant social issues.

So, actually, I'd like to see some proof that it does no harm, rather than some meaningless personal anecdotes or feelings.

It would only add to the moral decay of this country. And that affects me! A marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman. We, whether you like it or not, we are a Christian based nation. We must stand up for what is morally right, or face God's wrath.

I think's it's wrong.
Let's see...what is idolatry? Idolatry is doing everything according to nature. Now at first, you might think- "oh, well, if everything is natural- isn't that the right way to go?".
But think again- if we did everything 'according to nature', we'd be stealing, drinking, killing; everything our religions go against (and even if you're atheist, principles such as : don't murder, don't steal still have great significance) and try to prevent.

At the end of the day- the guy needs a girl to brign him down to Earth, and the girl needs a guy to hold her and stroke her hair and tell her "it's OK". At the end of the day, it's not a male giving birth, and nor is it a girl sporting male reproductive organs.
At the end of the day-
G-d made Adam and Eve.

What was that? Adam and Eve...NOT adam and adam.
Some badges say "I was born gay- god made me this way" or something liek that. But it's not true. It's the opposite. G-d wants us to marry one of the opposite sex- not of the same.
A woman is incomplete without a man,
just as
a man is incomplete without a woman.
Think about it.

It doesn't I am against it for moral reasons. However I do think that there ought to be some relief for same sex couples to enjoy the legalitys of marriage like to inherit, power of attorney, medical decisions ect. Just call it a differant name. Hey, repuke's, even banning same sex marriage will not make gay people go away.

It doesn't at all. It should just be a given that everyone has the same rights as everyone else. This is America, after all. I don't care if you think it's immoral, you can't legislate morality and if it's against your religion, too bad cause we have the First Amendment. If you disagree with homosexuality, don't be homosexual, but there's nothing you can do about other people's choices.

Gay people have the same rights as straight people.

Straight people are not allowed to marry people of the same sex either, and gay people are allowed to marry someone of the opposite sex.

When we start changing the definition of words, such as marriage, what will it lead to? It sets a precedent to more changes. Will that weird guy down the street be able to marry his goat one day? Why not? He can argue that they love each other, and they should not be discriminated against.

I'll be honest. Same sex relationships, fine with me. There is just something about the sacredness of marriage. I don't agree with it but to each his own.

Lord knows i'm not perfect so I will stay clear of passing too much judgement on this one. Same sex marriage won't affect me unless I allow it to.

It forces me to tell my children upon their hearing of it that they live in a society which does not respect the undeniable laws of nature. And the "marriage" forces me to tell them about homosexuality at a pre-mature age. I don't even want them knowing about heterosexuality until they're ready, much less homosexuality.

Also, don't you know that it has been in the final days of countless societies that the homosexuals have come out virtually unopposed? It is because in these societies there has been the death of shame and thus the decadent flaunting of that which was, is, and always will be taboo - homosexuality.
