Most of the answer you seek is within the question. You say you like swimming. That's wonderful. That used to be my favorite recreation. Competetive swimming is NOT the same thing, and if you've gone to even one practice, you already know it.

Ask yourself, do you reallly want to swim in competition? If you really want to do it, then you simply have to go to practice. It does not matter if you "feel" tired. As long as you can walk to the locker room, then go, get in the water and do your laps.

When you are swimming in a race, you will be in a lane next to someone who wants to win. He will push as hard as he can to make sure he touches up before anyone else in the pool. The harder he pushes, the more it will hurt, the more tired he will feel. But if he wants to win, he will keep pushing.

If you won't show up to practice because you feel tired, how can you expect to compete against that other swimmer, who does show up and pushes when HE is tired.

If you just want to splash around and do belly flops and dive after pretty stones, don't go to practice and take up lane space. If you get kicked off the team, it shouldn't matter.

Just go. Just do it. Try to win. If not against the next swimmer, then against that little demon that's been trying to discourage you. Short term goals is the way to reach the end of the season. It shouldn't matter which lane touched up first. Just keep track of your times and look for improvement.

talk to your coach. Take a deep breath before time and think to yourself "I may not be as good as them, but I will be one day. And I can do this".
