right click on my computer, Properties, then under the hardware tab click on device manager. there it lists all your hardware. you may not have a sound card. you may have onboard sound on your motherboard

click start, right click on my computer, select properties,select hardware tab, select device manager. any sound cards that have been installed by the user will show up here. if you are looking for the on board audio. it is embedded with the mother board. all you have to do is update the driver files at windows update page.

Start --> Settings --> Control Panel. Open Sounds and Multimedia, click the Hardware tab and see what it says for audio device.
