It's just a town that gets hot in the Summer and cold at night,
that imports all its water
and is growing faster than hell.
Lots of opportunity...and always something to do in the evening.
Go for it!

I have been here for 15 years, when I first came out the cost of living was comparatively low to where I came from (Chicago). Now the real estate prices have just skyrocketed. What used to cost $220,000 four years ago now cost over $550,000...just incredible. The job market is good out here for almost any occupation.
The convenience is definitely there, grocery stores and many others are open 24 hours a day, bars are open 24 hours a day.
I have 3 children (don't know if you have any or are going to) and the schools out here are horrible, we were rated 48 out of all 50 states as far as education-we have some of the worst schools.
But there are lots of things to do with them within a short distance that they really enjoy, just have to know where to look.
But visiting Vegas and living here are too different things, when you visit you hardly leave the strip and when you live here you never go there...lol
Anyway there are 10,000 people who move here every month and 4,000 people who leave here every month so you will never know until you try it

Personally, I lived there on-and-off for eight years, and I like it a lot. Great weather and lots to do. It does come with the baggage any large SW city has: traffic, some bad pollution days etc. Overall, though I think it's great.
What type of job skills do you have? Lots of IT, and construction jobs. If you have the right contacts and experience, there are also lots of Federal and defense contractor jobs at Nellis AFB (Nellis is actually Nevada 5th largest city.) Most of the service-type jobs in the casino's don't pay that well. Many folks come to LV thinking they will make a mint, and end up leaving. The housing market is slowing down, and may become a buyer's situation later this winter. That'll help with housing costs. Bottom line is, research, research, research. Best places to live are Summerlin, Henderson, and Green Valley. But, they also come with some high priced housing.

As mentioned, think about the very hot summers. Check the average temperatures.
Housing is cheaper than CA, but higher than many places. Restaurants in the casinos can be cheap, but the cheap food is slowly disappearing. You can't eat as cheap as you use to.
Traffic is awful. It isn't only the congestion, but the drivers are very rude. Part of that problem is the massive number of taxis and rental cars. (This makes insurance higher than some areas.)
No income taxes is a good thing, but there are other taxes to consider.
If you have kids or plan to have kids, consider the schools. They have lots of problems with getting quality teachers because of the rapid influx of people moving in to the area.
Keep in mind some places that are great to visit are the worst to live in.
Good luck if you move.

I like it, but its realllllllllllllllly hot in summer, living expenses are very high, medical costs are high and a/c for july and aug will be about 400 per month and i dont live in a large place. there are lots of jobs but mostly service jobs at min wage so it takes about 4 people working those jobs full time to pay for a two bedroom apt.
