Well, I can definetly tell you to stay away from Sony laptops, especially the small ones. From a pro's experience, sony laptops do not hold up, they are way too fragile and tech support is increasingly worse. As far as all laptops, I have found that the lower end models with AMD Semprons and Intel Celerons crap out alot quicker than the units with the really strong processors. The trick is to spend your money once, so you might have to spend a little more than you want to. A few things to remember, STAY AWAY FROM SONY, try out some Toshiba's and Compaq's with Centrino in them. These have long battery life and can take a beating, that's what centrino was designed for. Also, do not go with Acer or Averatec, they offer very little customer support. Whatever you buy, the key is to get a good extended warranty, always. Make sure it covers parts and labor for at least 2-3 years. Lastly, protect your investment, buy a really good bag or case that you can kick the living daylights out of. Stay away from leather, it gets old and ugly, try the Targus nylon bags out. Hope that helps------

I like my dell inspiron e1705. It has a 17" widescreen monitor which i know you said you were a girl and wanted a small computer, but i am a girl too and it is real light, maybe 3lbs, white and silver if color matters. Its real easy to setup and use. My dad was like you want help with setting it up, and im like i am done with it. Its really fast with all the upgrades in it. Macs are not often compatable with programs and are only prefered for graphics, programs work better on a windows os. Definately go with xp professional since it is the best out there. It should last 4 years. I am hoping mine will.

As a Computer Technician, I would personally suggest either an Alienware laptop, or a voodoo laptop, if you're planning on heavy graphics usage, they are a bit higher price, but very good quality. If you're just using it for a word processing and internet workstation then I would suggest a dell or gateway, they are cheaper, but lower qualitty.

Go with the Apple.
They are very easy to use, even if you've never touched one and they are sleek.
They have a long battery life and if you get one of the new ones, you'll be able to run Microsoft software on them as well, so you'll basically have two in one.
Hope that this helps.

One that you can afford... If you have money then by the most expensive one... If you have no money then get into the newspaper and find one that someone who has money wants to get rid of because they want to spend money on a newer model.
