It's a great newspaper with very well-respected journalists. The issues covered are not necessarily to do with New York; in fact, usually they're world events, national events, and then artsy and societal stuff as well.

Because the NYT covers a wide variety of stories with well respected journalists. I also read the Los Angeles Times and the Toronto Star, and I live in NYC

Because it's a well-respected source of news, and, in my humble opinion, has some of the best news writing and interesting stories around.

I also like the Toronto Star, but you can't get it in the States in very many places.
