You do need a wireless access point or router. You need this as the PSP cannot connect to the internet any other way.

WiFi is very short range. Many think of it as the same as the mobile phone network with a range of miles and miles but its not, the range is 100meters MAX!

Its also not everywhere like the mobile phone network. You need to have a wireless device in your home to convert your internet signals into a wireless one but the range is so short it will cover your house and maybe your neighbours. Dont worry though about them using it, you can protect your wireless network with passwords and other messures ensuring only you can use it.

Another option for about £20 is the WiFi max, a USB device which plugs into your PC turning your PC into a Wireless router. The problem with this is that you have to leave your PC on all the time if you want to use the wireless on your PSP (seeing as the PC is now the router) which can be expensive given that the average PC sucks 400watts of power.

The other problem is the range is shorter, security is weaker, its quite difficult to setup (a router is plug in, turn on and done) and also many people have had trouble using it to play games online which means you are limited to browsing the web and thats it.

My advice is dont just get it to browse the web. Its a novelty which quickly wears off after entering a handful of web address into the slow interface.

Wi-Fi is a wireless commuication capability that allow systems to recieve wireless signal from a server in certain range. So, if you don't have the server or out of range from the signals sent by the server, you can't connect onto the internet.
If you don't have a router, aka the server, then you can't access internet from home. But if you are lucky enough that your neighbor have a router at their home and it is not password secured, then you can steal their internet signal.

No its not truly stealing because people do not ignore that once they set up wifi that they are taking a probability at people utilising it. Plus in the adventure that they didn't wish people utilising it, they might lock it. yet in case you wanna us wifi without feeling undesirable you could bypass to starbucks or panaras. they have wifi that all of us is free to apply.
