Yes I agree with you. That penalty call for Italy against the Australians in 30 seconds left of regular game time, was a travesty.
It should not have been a penalty!
The Italians would have been eliminated from the World Cup if this had not happened--so not only was it the most stupidest referee call, but the most far-reaching so far.

Giving a player 3 red cards before sending him off, giving Italy a penalty for a simulation in the last second, and the 4 red cards and 8 yellow cards in an out-of control bloodbath that was Netherlands-Portugal. These instances of the "art" of a referee are the worst examples of stupidity for refs.

Yeah, the penalty kick in the Italy vs Australia game was controversial. But then again, the red card to the Italian player in the same match should have been a yellow card.

Unfortunately, refs will always have a problem as long as there are dishonorable players on the field. The game still has plenty of sportsmanship, but too many players have no honor playing the game. Anyone who dives is essentially trying to cheat to gain an advantage. It is despicable and embarrassing. I feel sorry for the refs. Their job is impossible. I am an American who played in Germany & Austria in high school and I can vouch for the Europeans learning to dive early in life. Sad & disgraceful, but then again, morals have gone out the door in almost every aspect of society so why should soccer be any different.

Well, the Italy-Australia one was probably the worst, but the yellow card the Slovakian ref gave to Maxi Rodriguez (Arg-Ger) is up there as well. It should have been a penalty in Argentina's favor, but it was a yellow against us. It left me staring at the replay in confusion (and growing anger).

Definitely the penalty call in the 94th minute Italy Vs Aus. The match should have been decided on PKs.

Red card after McBride took the elbow to the face.....no doubt about it. Ref just "evened' the field.
