I am assuming that the Mimosa tree you refer to has pink powder-puff flowers. It's botanical name is Albizia julibrissin. Another common name is the silk tree. It is a fast growing tree that is particularly susceptible to various "wilts" that cause a speedy and sudden demise. Connecticut is near the northern edge of its hardiness zone. The Mimosa is native to Iran east to Japan.

yes, we used to have them on Long Island. Mimosas get diseased easily though so watch out for bugs and funguses.
