I have a Western Digital USB Harddrive Model:WD1200B014 and i accidentally deleted the partition when i was reinstalling windows on my pc. I had transfered all of my important data on to this drive and i was wondering if it was possible to repartition the drive without formatting it? and if possilbe can i do it without spending too much money? I want to save the data without having to buy a program and a new haddrive.

I have a nasty suspicion that you may have overwritten your data, you could try partition magic, or if it's vital information there are companies which may be able to recover the data, another alternative which may be of use to do before you try anything else is to get a copy of Knoppix which is free an a live Linux distrobution, make sure your computer will boot from the CD drive before the harddrive, you may need to adjust the bios for this, boot into knoppix & check the windows partition, then if the data is there you can copy it to a CD (if you have a separate cd writer) or usb hard drive.

If you repatition the drive, that means you are reformatting the FAT system, you've probably already overwriten the data, and though it is possible to get it back with some more advanced programs available, it would be expensive. your best bet is to try some of these above answers, and if they don't work, then your data is more than likly gone for good. In the future, if you absolutly need to keep something permanently, I would suggest a CD-R backup of it.
