For me it's a matter of convience. I live in a relatively rural area. If I need something at the store, I'm not gonna walk for an hour when I could get there in my car in a few minutes. Though when I'm in the city I usually park somewhere and walk for the day.

Yes it is better to walk, but people have gotten lazy. Plus, how can someone walk to the grocery store when it's 20 miles away and you have to carry a LOT of bags home? It would take a bunch of trips. And if you wanted to take a vacation to another country, it would take forever to walk there.

it depends on their neighborhood. if you live in los angeles not to many things are close. its easier to drive and our public transportation isn't that good although it is improving. however, if you live in NYC everything is much closer or you can subway to where you need to go.
plus not all places are desirable to walk. in Arizona, nice area but in the summer its really hot so you drive for the air condition.
it seems easy to say just walk but you have to take into account why people drive.
for the most part though were just lazy.

There's one thing to walk a block than to drive a block. However, driving is necessary if you have to get somewhere quickly.
