The only bad sportsman like behavior was Rooney steeping on the balls of the Portuguese player. Rooney made scene when taken out in his first World Cup game. He then screamed at the ref and made hand motion and also screamed in the face of an opposing player during the game against Ecuador. He began his screaming in this game. Finally when he unnecessarily hit the Portugeuese player's balls when he was standing up and got a red card--I celebrated as well. Before criticizing Ronaldo, please look into why he winked. I was jumping up and down after the red.

Supposedly, the wink was meant to show that he had followed a plan to play the ref by framing Rooney, and succeeded.
Personally i think it was just a bit of cheek, and he will get a good few knocks for it when he returns to Old Trafford ;-)
As for diving, am I the only person with the sense to see that almost every player out there today dives. There are a few honourable ones, but they are usually left out of national teams (coincidence?).
Really, there should be a big crackdown on diving. Referees are afraid to act on a perceived dive because if they get it wrong, then a fouled player could be send off.
I think football should advance a bit in terms of technology - give the ref a video player so he can view the incident from several view points (like a replay) and make an informed decision.
I'm only 17 ffs, and I can see furthur than the organisers.
If they can spend hundreds of millions building national stadiums, then they can spend a few hundred to give a referee an objective tool to help him make decisions.

Maybe it wasn't the best sportsmanship, but any player would be glad to see one of the other team's threats red carded, especially after what Rooney did. The Brazilian players are no angels, but they do get "hunted" a lot by the other teams, because they know that, if given the chance, Brazil can be a huge threat. That said, neither team is competing anymore, so does it really matter?

Rooney was always a liability, he can't control his temper.
I watched that game and the red card was given to Rooney for stepping on the Portugal players balls. Every time any players gets hurt his team mates are pleading their case to the ref what made him voicing his opinion any different? Secondly Rooney shoved Ronaldo in front of the ref and did you notice Ronaldo didn't even react or look at Rooney for that? He did nothing.
I dislike Rooney for his attitude.

Most likely the ref would have let the foul go,Roony was sent off for ffing and blinding and pushing and causing mayem.Serves him right.Ronaldo is a great ball player but does bend the rules a bit...isnt it time we started doing that in the England team..seems it wins football matches Ay.A total disgrace by an underperforming England Team, did you count the times they kicked the ball into row Z in front of an open goal.

liverpoolfc is a sad kopite
Ronaldo forced the issue of Rooney's foul with the ref and got him sent off. It is all the more despicable as they play for the same club.
The wink was an acknowledgement to the rest of the team and the bench that he had achieved what the entire team had set out to achieve - the sending off of an opponent - any opponent. It is just unfortunate that it was Wayne Rooney.

Any player that resorts to diving and influencing the referee is only admitting he is not good enough to play the game fairly. Which is a shame as ronaldo is a very talented player

Apart from the diving, i don't think it was the cheating as much as his cocky attitdue. He was out to get Rooney, plain and simple. I also watched the match against France and he dived about 3 times in that match, one when a French player was no where near him!

He shows the same 'slimey' behaviour, in nearly every game, he plays in the premiership also...
You DO NOT run nearly 60 yds and try to influence the ( already bias ) referee... against a club mate and ( So called ) friend.
I do hope, that 'Rooney'... 'Punches his lights out' , 1st chance he gets!
"Does anyone know"... 'Rooney' used to be a talented boxer? ;-))
