Funny, it was functioning on its own before we were there.

There's no "victory" to be won in Iraq, save the installation of a US puppet government. The best we can do now is to help the Iraqi people build their infrastructure back at least to where it was before we bombed it out of existence. By help, I mean let Iraqi contractors and Iraqi companies do the work and we provide any assistance needed, not another fat no-bid contract for Haliburton or KBR. Believe it or not, Baghdad was an western-style urban city. There are lots of Iraqi engineers, doctors, scientist, heavy machinery operators, construction experts. Most Iraqis have university degrees, and are more than capable of rebuilding their country without the help of Mr. Cheney and his buddies.
The political and religious firestorm Bush unleashed on the other hand will take decades to decide. There is nothing the US can do there except get out.
Love it or Leave..... I agree. No one should ever "condemn the troops" for the misguided and thoroughly illegal actions of their commander-in-chimp (except in those few instances where atrocities have occurred). They are doing an extraordinarily hard job and should be given all the support, equipment, and medical care that they need but are not receiving....especially from the Republican administration.
Tell me exactly how is the Bush administration's invasion in any way "protecting our freedoms"?

The whole coalition needs to continue to provide support and help build and strengthen security in the country, with properly functioning Iraqi police forces, as well as military.
Iraq needs continuous international support, and they shouldn't be left until that country is secure, stable and completely normal, because at the moment, it's still early days for the new Iraq, and security is looking shaky.
There are people there who definately don't ever want to see peace in the country, and they would love it if the troops left, so that they can take over and enslave the good people with their evil way of life once again. All the more reason why Iraq needs on-going support. People are afraid to walk out of their homes to the shops incase they never return. I can only try to imagine how it must feel to have to live like that.
I'm glad the Americans and coalition are there - they're doing a great job.
Iraq is everyone's neighbour.

There were terrible atrocities occurring in Iraq before the U.S. ever became involved. Now that every kind of Terrorist Group has gathered together there, to fight Our Troops, it is making the initial intended Operation take more time. Add to that the fact that the People of Iraq can't seem to get Their footing, it is going to take a while. One reporter stated that after returning, after being attacked Himself, and did not know if He would make it out alive, that it took 100 years after the Civil War to try to even make things right here, and He felt it would take that long to straighten out the mess there. Not that We should be there any longer than it is completely necessary. But it was known in the beginning of this Invasion, or Occupation that it would not be a quick or easy process. I am sure if Someone knew how to speed this up, it would have already been done.
We need to do Our part and support Our Troops. Not condemn them for sacrificing Their safety for Our Freedom.

I'm here in Iraq. This war is being run by the opponets....everyone is so worried about being politically correct. The best thing to do is to kick the media out....and let the military do what it has to do, without all the media, the politics, and the therapists trying to interfere. Had they not interferred, then we'd all be back at home by now. Although I don't agree with the war.......it's here so we just as soon win it. I really think some news agencies and some people should be prosecuted for giving out classified information on the news...and showing classified locations on their cameras. Good thing I'm not the president.

We must somehow be able to read the thoughts of the people there because it is only their thoughts that separate the friendly from the hostile until they are actually shooting at you.
This is the whole basis of the problem you can't tell who is who, which leaves two options.
1. Get out of dodge and leave it up to the puppet government that we set up.
2. Slaughter everyone.
You cannot fight and have any hope to win a war, in which you cannot determine who the enemy is on sight.
Support the troops, bring them home now while they are still alive.

That's exactly the question we keep asking. The definition of "victory" in Iraq keeps changing. And will, for a long time, or at least for the next two years.

A larger force from the get go might have been a good idea. Too late for that now. Do best to hunt insugents and continue to shift from fighting to training and rebuilding infrastructure.

It is not a winnable war. You can only win if the people want you to win. This is why we won WWII, and the reason we lost Vietnam.
We removed Saddam. The rest is there problem. Move on.

We need to get out. The government has been set up, but it will never last no matter how long we stay over there. All they know how to do is kill each other and go hide in mosques. Let them.
