Along this street every parking space was marked with white lines, the last one had the wheelchair symbol painted on the ground inside the white lines, it also had a sign on each side (front and rear) stating it is a handicap spot. So I parked in the spot just behind it after making sure there was Not a wheelchair symbol painted inside that spot, nonetheless I got a ticket. P.S. This happened last weekend while vacationing in woodruff, wi - and even some of the locals told me I wasn't parked illegally. Dirty cops maybe? Trying to steal from the tourists? What would you do?

you can try. The worst that will happen is you loose and pay the fine.

The idea behind the law if that the parking space should be empty in case a handicapped person with a placard wants to use it. Excuses like there were no cars there at all or you were half way in the spot or it was only for 30 seconds won't work. There are still places in the US where the goold 'ol boy network still exists and if you find a local attorney with the right connections you might get off with no problem but few places like that exist today. consult with a local attorney which will cost you some $ but it sounds pretty hopeless to me.

No! No! Fight it at all costs. You are being taken. I am handicapped and could get a license plate with a wheelchair on it,but if I can't get to the store I will stay home. Many times I go to Lowe's or Wal-mart and they have those spots close to the store, but they are almost always empty. If you have a wheelchair on your tag,and one hanging off your rear view mirror, then you should have a wheelchair with you and someone to push it!!!

If it was a valid spot, and you have a photograph of your car in the space in question, as well as all posted signs, I'd fight it, however if the space behind it had a hash (cris crossed lines) on the ground, it's not a valid spot, since that area (As well as the area to the immediate left and right of the handicapped spot) are designated as zones which allow for free movement of people getting in and out of handicapped equipped vehicles (ramps, etc...)

Did you know some handicap vehicles open at the rear to get out wheelchairs and/or people! Pay the ticket!

It sounds passive, but sometimes if you neglect to pay, errr excuse me "fight" a parking ticket, then you end up having to pay a lot more than the what the initial penalty was in late fees, lost wages, drving costs having to traffic court, etc. So I recommend you just pay the ticket.

if you didn't park in the spot, fight it. pull some of the locals as witnesses. but it might be cheaper to just pay the money for the ticket than to go through court costs. depends on your principles.

If you parked behind it, how could a handicapped person get into their spot? Of course you should have been ticketed.

IF you have any witnesses, who will support your claim, take it to court. Since they have to show up on their OWN time, most police officers don't make traffic court appearances.
