You will need a Wireless Router to do this.

First connect your wireless router to your computer and insert the CD that would have come with the wireless router. that would start a wizard that would take you thru the config process. This is very simple.

One done Connect your Wireless router to your cable modem (cox). Make sure that the cable from Cable modem goes in at Internet/WAN port in the wireless router.

Connect your computer to the port 1 of the wireless router.

Switch off everything and turn on in following order

1. cable modem
wait 30 seconds
2. wireless router
wait 1 min
3. desktop computer and see if the internet is working
4. Switch on your LAPTOP and it would say wireless network found. Click on there and choose the network and click connect.
If the in the config of the router you choose a Wireless Key, please note it down as you will need to enter the same in the Laptop when you click connect.

It should work now.

Also for any further information, you can always call the support desk of the manufacturer (wireless router's) and they will be able to help you.

Thanks

1. Buy a wireless router

2. Connect wireless router to old router, then to desktop

3. Setup wireless network settings on desktop

4. Run a "search for wireless networks" on your laptop

5. Connect to your desktop based wireless network

(You can purchase good/decently priced wireless routers anywhere they sell PCs: BestBuy, Staples, Circuit City, etc.)
