My condolences to you and your co-workers. What a sad turn of events.
I don't know how big your company is but could a scholarship fund in his name be set up? Everyone could put in some money which would be matched by the company. Then the scholarship could go to someone in the community in his name.
If it's a smaller company, how about a picnic for the workers and their families that includes games and baked goods for sale. Any money raised could go to his family. At least you would all feel like you were doing something constructive.
Could your company sponsor an anti-violence speaker who'd go to local schools to talk to kids? I'm just trying to think of anything that would be positive to counter this tragedy.
Good luck to you all.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

I like some of the suggestions you received.

Another idea would be to put together a memory book. Hopefully there are pictures of your friend available (maybe with coworkers?)

Also have your coworkers write some nice things about him- what was he like? Did he tell any silly jokes? What were some of his expressions-favorite sayings?

Put these together. Although this will be sad, it could be "fun" in that you are recalling the best times.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your coworkers.

Try having a small memorial service for him. Just the office workers and his family. This would help the grieving process and you guys could celebrate his life.
