It is an impossible exercise to determine who was the best president of the USA, if you do not propose a set of appropriate criteria to define what you call "best". Parameters such as historical situations (crisis or peace, economics trends, social and racial issues...) and the way a president handles problems have huge impacts on his rank in a general classification. However, we may not be fair in our judgment, being inclined to perceive things through the reality of our lifetime.

So, we cannot say the best president of the USA was John or Edward...

George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and JFK were, among others, great presidents.

Personally, and just from the time I've been alive. (I can't say for sure because I haven't lived through all the other presidents.) But, our country was financially stable, and doing better than I ever remember during Clinton's presidency. Yeah, there was all that BS about his personal life, but everyone has a personal life, and I don't think he deserved to have it drug out like that. Who cares if he was president or a wino on the street. It was his personal life. All we did with dragging that out was embarrass ourselves in front of the other countries. If we had let it be his OWN problem like it really WAS, then things would have been fine. The country was doing better than I have ever remembered. A HELL of a lot better than we have been under Bush. But, I'm only 30. So, I can't say about Kennedy, I have heard that he was pretty good too. Didn't live it though.

FDR; his semi-socialist New Deal measures really helped out the country, and his course of action during WWII enabled us to clear the Nazi's from the Europe they ravaged.
