Pontoon boats aren't made for speed. Prop the boat correctly by putting the approximate weight aboard and run the boat and get a tach reading. The right prop should put the boat in its operating range which is probably 5000-5500rpm. Obviously the lighter load you intend to carry the bigger you can go in prop pitch. Propping the boat correctly will keep your engine from over-revving or running under too much load because of too much pitch. I am guessing you may turn a 13-15" prop which would put you around 20-25 mph. If the motor is easily turning the proper rpms you may go up a size (and speed) but the trade off may be acceleration getting on to plane.

You also have to take into affect other things that could change the motor speed....
Wind, waves.
Passengers and weight.
A 75HP should ok for your pontoon, had a 85 on a 22ft pontoon that pulled two tubes with 5 people on board. Just matters.

verify your seals, No oil + smoke = many times equals you're burning oil. And certain if untreated, that could want to grab your motor. Outboard automobiles are terrible and notorious for breaking like this. Run the motor each and every 2-3 months out of season. i'd run it month-to-month in case you dont winterize it. i'd have a mechanic take a seem at it.

depending on the shape and the weight. Also remember that your speed will be in nautical miles and does not correlate with hard ground speed untill you conver it. Ill say 25 to 37 nautical miles/hour

it depends on the size and shape of the boat. if it has a deep hull and is long it might not move at all. if its a shorty and shallow it would move a lot faster. you need to put some more detail in you question.
