well I just wanted to comment on the eating bit...I am six weeks pregnant and my docter says that it is okay to drink soda in moderation, to eat cold sandwich meats that are zapped in the microwave for a bit, and to watch those fish with high percentages a mercury in it...shark, swordfish---don't eat those so don't have to worry about that...but albacore has very high levels in it so just stick to light tuna in water. Other than that...I can enjoy what ever I want...and eating smaller meals daily will help as well.

Pineapples are actually safe. There is some speculation that if you eat three medium pineapples in a sitting you can induce a miscarriage, but you have to eat ALOT of pineapple for this speculation to be true, so dont worry about it.

Oh and try to avoid shellfish at all costs. (clams, lobster, crabs, mullosks, shrimp, etc) because they carry certain diseases sometimes, and I think it can be fatal to the embryo/fetus.

DO eat foods high in calcium, though. Total 100% has 100% of the RDA of calcium, so this would be great for you.

Sounds exactly what my doc told me to stick too! WIC is a good program, especially if you decide to formula feed. It is no longer income based and more based on nutritional needs. It will also help once your baby is on whole foods and milk when he/she gets older. They also not only provide food, but lots of nutritional and breast feeding advice Congrats and best wishes!!

Soda pop is ok, it just has a lot of caffeine. Caffeine isn't so much proven to affect the baby so much it just isn't healthy. Also as you get further along it won't help the bladder infections and UTI some pregnant women get cursed with later on in pregnancy!

I would check on guidelines for wic. On eating also avoid caffeine. Lot up on veggies and fruit and water. I never drank soda while I was pregnant. I also drank gatorade it has a lot of electolites so that yo do not get dehydrated. Soups have a lot of vitamins especialyyhomemade soup.No junk food only a little.Congrats on baby. There is a book called What to expect while pregnant its a great book it helped me a lot

avoid sushi, may contain a high percentage of mercury, not good for the baby.. raw fish or half-cooked meat is a no no when you're pregnant... raw (rinsed) vegetables and fruits are good though.... you know what else is good... egg yolk... the cholesterol is good for the baby, so eat up..but eat in moderation... and drink lots of low fat fresh milk... I used to be such a junk food addict but since I am pregnant, I seem to automatically feel disgusted when looking at salty food like chips etc... wonder why but i supposed it's for the better... I crave for dark chocolates though heheh..

What you listed is basically it. Try to limit your caffeine intake (coffee, sodas, tea, chocolate). U mentioned deli meats, but don't eat soft unpastuerized cheeses (feta, blue cheese, etc etc). And anything with raw egg shouldn't be consumed ie. cookie dough (which I love), cake and brownie batter LOL. Of course alcohol is a NO NO but that should go without saying. HTH

just don't eat baking soda. i had a craving for it and still do, but my doctor told me that that is a sign of iron defecientcy {know i aint spell that right, but owell}. now when i try and purchase some at the grocery store my boyfriend either takes it out of the shopping cart or finds it in the cabinet at home and trashes it.

my doctor (gyn) told me that I should not eat anything that I haven't tried before, she said now it's not the time to experience with any kind of foods because your body could react bad to it and you could even have a miscarriage, also she prohibited me anything that contains caffeine (even tea) she said that it's not because it would hurt the baby, it's because if you're drinking caffeine during pregnancy your baby is also drinking it and when your baby is born he/she will also get really bad headaches and craps if you don't give him/her more caffeine, just like we do with our morning coffee, we're tired and we get headaches, same thing happens to the baby when it's born...so she said if "If you don't want a cry baby you'll have to make this sacrifice right now" and I'm doing it, I have not had any caffeine for about 3 1/2 months now, and I don't get headaches anymore...
