I am on high speed cable which is called NX-T1 which just means my download is at 7mb/s and upload is 3.5 to 4mb/s. This system works great it's a hybrid of both.

A T1 line is fully synchronous. Meaning download and upload speeds are the same. The latency time (response time) of a T1 line is much lower(faster).

DSL is really short for ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line).
Asynchronous means that the download speed is much faster than the upload speed.

So, the total pipe size (throughput) of a T1 is 3Mbits/sec where the total throughput of DSL for residential is only about 1Mbits/sec (768Kbits down from internet, & 256Kbits up to the internet).
