Why was it so scary?

It would be a toss up between "The Exorsist" and "Jaws".
I thought that the Exorsist was very frightening because it was effecting an innocent person who could seemingly been any child including me... or my own children, so the concept is timeless. Jaws preyed on everyones fear about what is below the surface of the water just out of our sight. It was based loosely on the attacks in 1916 off the coast of New Jersey, so it has some basis in fact. I always felt that it was the same story as Moby Dick, but closer to home. What to you do when you are in danger of losing your advantage of dry ground as your boat is sinking into the territory of a great white shark. I felt that the original Hills have Eyes was also disturbing and scary. What would push you to the point of being able to kill someone? That situation would...

Hmm...that's a little hard. I'm not really much of a horror movie person, but I used to watch scary movies when I was like 9 or 10! Crazy, isn't it? Anyway, here are some I that remember that really scared me, or I just didn't enjoy watching at all....
The Ring
Final Destination
Final Destination 2
The Red Dragon
...can't remember any more.
And they were so scary or disturbing (or both) because they are horror movies. And because 9 year olds shouldn't watch rated R movies like that. Even though I know I would be less scared now than a few years ago, I'm still not gonna see all those other really scary movies, even the commercials bother me a little!

The most disturbing movie I have seen is an oldie. Its called "Blood Sucking Freaks" Talk about crazy! Very gory much like "The hills have eyes"
The scariest movie I have seen has got to be "Halloween" When I saw this as a kid it scared the hell out of me.

Disturbing pics would be Evil Dead, I Spit on Your Grave, A Clockwork Orange. Not really scary just weird/disturbing.

Scary would be the first time I saw Nosferatu. I was 5 or 6 years old and had nightmares for weeks.

I don't like the movies with devils, demons in them they are scary to me.

The worst was watching Witchboard as a teenager and having to walk home in the dark. I lived in the country at the time, I heard a crack in the bushes and I ran home so fast it wasn't funny. I bet it was just a bird or deer.

Jaws freaks me out - I won't go swimming in water I know there is sharks, alligators, crocodiles. Oh course i live in Canada so none of those up here.

Silence of the Lambs
The Shinning- RedRum - the little boy says over and over.
Witchboard
The Black room
AmittyVille
The omen
Exorcist
Jacob's Ladder
Nightmare on ElmStreet (1) 1,2 freddy's after you, 3,4 better lock your door. This rhyme still freaks me out.
Pinhead and those freaks in Hellriser

We saw "The Hills Have Eyes" remake last weekend. It was freaky.

Saw and Saw 2 were both rather disturbing.

I think all these movies are bad because they show the very worst of humanity. I think that is more disturbing than a single murderer or a scary monster.

Saw was pretty disturbing, at the end where that guy played by Cary Ewes is sawing off his leg to get away. And just the villain Jigsaw. He's plain creepy. He's almost like an avenger, taking people who have wronged something or someone in their life and force them to appreciate life. And even if they die, that's okay, they didn't appreciate life enough to live anyway. Pretty creepy.

Fianl Destination 1 & 2. This movie wasn't all that scary but it was kind of disturbing because it deals with things that could ACTUALLY happen in everyday life.
