We have been there, done that and now we are moving on to other places in space.

Although my wife's father performed fuel calculations for the original Apollo landing, I'll spare you that speech. Instead, I will encourage you to watch two programs. The first show is called Conspiracy Moon Landing that it currently showing on the National Geographic Channel and it pretty much obliterates all of the popular conspiracy theories.
I would also encourage you to watch a movie called Capricorn One. Made it 1978, it is a fictional story about a fake mission to Mars. Although it is a science fiction story, it is a good example of how utterly impossible it would be to fake a moon landing for any length of time.
12 men walked on the moon from 1969 to 1972 and we have neither the resources nor the technology to pull off that big of a hoax for so long. Hundreds of thousands of people have worked on the space program. It would be far easier to put someone on the moon than to try and fake it and keep it secret for nearly 40 years.
The landings came at a time when our space program was ultra competitive with the former Soviet Union. Remember how big of a deal it was when Sputnik was put into orbit? They had the technology to monitor our moon shots and transmissions. Don't you think they would have called us out if they had evidence that it was all fake?
Perhaps the most definitive proof of our trip to the moon is what we left behind. For the last 35+ years, scientists have been beaming lasers to the moon and measuring the return times. How are they doing this? The beams are reflected back by equipment left on the moon on at 3 different locations.
Case closed.

I will split the fence here. I believe we DID land on the moon. However...I think the pictures we see, especially the still photos, are fakes. The quality and quantity is far too great for the cameras the astronauts were using. They had no viewfinder, so no way to center or focus on what they were looking at, as the cameras were mounted to their chests. They did not have enough time to take all the pictures accounted for, and this is most important...they are all perfect quality! NASA claims they are all original - not retouched.
Why did they do this? They were uncertain of what they may find, and wanted to represent the US Space Program in the best light possible.

Landing on the moon was one of the greatest achievements of engineering in history.
But that would have paled in comparison to how hard it would have been to have *faked* it using 1960's film technology, and to have kept it a secret among that many people for that long.
There would have to have been literally *thousands* of people involved in the hoax, over a span of almost 13 years, from NASA administration, engineers, employees, communications experts (who would have to know where they were communicating to), plus three different Presidents (two Democrats and one Republican) and probably every President since, and hundreds of people in each of their administrations, etc. plus the military would have had to be involved to maintain security, plus the assumed film crews, special effects researchers, etc. not to mention the astronauts themselves, and their families (there were six missions that actually landed, each with three astronauts, what about the earlier Apollo missions that circled the moon but did not land, were they in on it too?). Plus we had the Russians watching us every step of the way (not just on TV) and would have *loved* to have exposed a hoax. And for what? To fool the Russians? If so then why the outrageous expense and risk of faking it SIX times?! (We actually tried a seventh time, but Apollo 13 had to come back without landing.) And through all of this, the consipiracy theorists say that NASA messed up with things like leaving a Coke can on the stage, or wind in the studio fluttering the flag, or "forgot" to put stars in the sky!
As for why have haven't done it again ... the answer is purely about budget. It's hard to quantify what *new* information we would get, and whether that is worth the extreme expense. Instead, NASA turned its attention to a reusable spacecraft (the shuttle).
So bottom line: Anybody who tells you the landing was a hoax is either having a great laugh at your expense (many of the moon-hoax sites are practical jokes) or has joined the ranks of the widemouthed gullible and will believe ANYTHING. (Please send me $200 and I will explain further.)

Yes, we went to the Moon. The reasons we stopped going are pure economical.. The shuttle program and the International space station program allowed us to experiment with many different things for the same cost as just going to the Moon and back. While not as exciting as trips to the Moon, NASA's decision to go in another direction is well understandable.

We did land on the Moon at great expense, mostly to prove to the world that we could do it better than the Soviets. Well, we did and proved our point so congress cut the funding and has not restored it ever since. NASA does want very much to return to the Moon, but congress has to give them the money to do it.
People think that technology is so much better now that it should be cheap to go to the Moon today, but they are wrong. Computer technology is way better today, but rocket technology is not. Sadly, the great advances in computer technology have no parallel in rocket technology. Rockets are just as clumsy and expensive now as they were in 1960.

Is there some sort of group that posts this stupid question on a daily basis?
We most certainly went to the moon, on several occasions.
In fact, we left many things behind not the least of which were three mirrors. These mirrors are used on a DAILY basis by observatories all over the world. Don't you think that ONE of these observatories would have said SOMETHING about it by now?
Please people before you post something this stupid, DON'T...

I believe it happened. That day my mother called me to say "I remember my grandfather marvelling at being able to hear other people on the radio, and now I am watching men walk on the moon." I get chills every time I think of it.
We have not done it lately because of three things: money, politics, and safety.
