We celebrated my first child's first birthday at home with friends and family after deciding not to do Chuckie Cheese. My second child turns one in 2 weeks and we are going to celebrate his birthday at Fenway Park during the Redsox game.

Have a simple family gathering at your house. The first 2 or 3 you can get away with having something small. Later you can do the whole "Chucky Cheese" party. I always used the child's age as a guide to how many kids to invite. Their age plus one. So if they're 5 they can have 6 guests. That way it doesn't get too crazy.

The first couple of birthdays are really for the family more so than the kid. The kid cannot discern that it is his birthday other than the fact that the focus is on him, which for the first 24 to 30 months of his life anyway.

Home.... places like Chuckie Cheese can be to much stimulation for your child on their first bday. Plus you want them to dig into that cake and Chuckie doesn't really allow that. Not to mention every party I have been to there is so rushed. They keep you on a time schedule. Have it at home, that way you can do it around babies naptime and baby will be in comfortable surroundings. Plus you will have the tub there for the bday cake wash down!! =)

at home with family is great the baby is still just a baby and places like chuckie cheese and fun parks are over stimulating for them. If they just have family and freinds around the baby is less likely to get fussy and over irritated. the baby will have more fun with less stimulation for the first birthday. Save the exciting places for when their older and can enjoy it more. Happy birthday little one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At home with family and friends is the best place. If it is nice outside and you are inviting friends and family with children then a park would be fine too with the fresh air and playground equipment.

At home. Don't go spend hundreds of dollars on this party because the child will have no memory of this event.

I have a one year old and we just had a little get together with our close friends and family. Nothing too big. We gave her a little cup cake just for herself. We had so much fun.
