If your friend got a legitimate job then she lied about her age. There are jobs out there for 13 year olds, but they would not be jobs that taxes would be taken out, etc. You could take a babysitting course at the YMCA. You would be given a certificate and then you would be able to be a certified babysitter. That always looks good to mom's. You could get a paper route. You only have to be 12 years old. You can pick strawberries, depending where you live of course (any fruit, I guess) Good Luck with your job hunting. Don't be in such a hurry to get that big job. Your only a kid for a short while. Enjoy that.

Depends on the job, and the state. It would be impossible for a 13 yo to be licensed to practice medicine, regardless of how smart he/she is. But some states allow people that age to work as a busboy at a restaurant, or stock shelves, or some construction under the supervision of an adult.

Of course, someone that age could deliver newspapers, run a lemonade stand, sell crafts they create by hand, mow lawns, shovel snow, or even "raise rabbits for fun and profit"!

The laws do vary from state to state regarding employment of minors, but for the right person in the right situation, they can surely get a job!

It's not very sensible to get a job at 13 when you're supposed to be focussing on your academic studies. If it's a job that's only an hour a week or something -like babysitting- it's fine really. It's just earning a little bit of pocket money.
But I think law requires (atleast here in UK) that you must work under 16 hours or something like that. Do a search or ask around about it.

Get a job at a sonic drive in. There are many 13 and 14 yr old workers there. And yes there are laws about that. You cant work past 7 o'clock PM. And a limited amount of hours per week.

She somehow may have gotten a work permit... unless she is due to turn 14 relatively soon. It also depends on the job. I was a babysitter at age 12... so yeah. You may want to check the labor laws in your city/town. The City Clerk may be able to help you more. :-)

From my experience though, most locales require you to be at least 14 or 15 before you can acquire a workers permit.

There are laws. You have to at least be 14 and even then there are more laws. But if it's like a babysitting job or mowing the lawn then that doesn't count.

There are laws about that.

Some 13 year olds can get jobs as babysitters or with businesses where they know the owner or are going to only work minimal hours.

Why get a job that young? Trust me, you'll have to work the rest of your life. Enjoy your youth!!!

It's really difficult, unless you have disadvantages. My friend comes from a low-income family and their father died when they were young. All 3 kids including the mother had to work, even the youngest which was a 12 year old girl.

Start at home first; 13 is a young age. Maybe look for things to do around the neighborhood. Then as you get older, more opportunites will be out there.

Well legaly you can't have a job. Try just mowing lawns, or yard sale, or what my friends and i did while we were little, go door to door asking if we could take out the trash for $1 lol. We were so cool.
