It depends on what you mean by "best", and to a lesser degree what you mean by "sports car". I'm assuming street-legal production cars.

Fastest? It's hard to keep track, but it's probably one of the Italian supercars like Lamborghini or Ferrari.

Best handling? It's partly a matter of taste and what kind of driving you do. Ariel or Lotus are contenders.

Most comfortable? Bentley GT is my vote.

Most fun? I think the Austin Healy Sprite is one of the most fun-to-drive cars ever built. It's not fast, and it's not luxurious, but dang, it's fun.

Most fun and currently being built? That might be a tossup between the Subaru Impreza WRX in STi tuning, or the MINI Cooper S. I have one of the latter, and a buddy has the former, and while you might argue that they're technically not sports cars, and therefore lack a certain "cool" factor, they are both TONS 'O FUN.

I have been doing a lot of research on this subject. I used to own a BMW M-Roadster, but it certainly is NOT the best.

If you have a budget, I would suggest the Honda S2000. If you want a 2 seater or the Subaru WRX STI if you want a 4 seater. I got really tired of the 2 seat cockpit and longed for more room. The WRX has that. Consumer Reports rated the WRX as the "Most fun to drive" car. I agree, I have driven one and they are fun.

Both cars are extremely reliable and will last for many years and several hundred thousand miles. They are much prefered to a car that you can't drive often without breaking your budget, like the Corvette or other higher priced cars like BMWs. And beleive me, they are just as fast and can be modified to go faster much more cheaply.

the best sports car for the money right now is the new mazda miata MX5 (2006 - 2007) model. they come with autostick. you know with paddle shifters on the steering wheel like those F1 racing cars. the price is pretty reasonable too. anywhere from $20,000 - $25,000 depending on options. If you really want to go out in a big way a be a tru BALLER. Purchase the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution for $35,000 and approx. 300 HP what more can you ask for?.

Not sure what you mean by BEST? A greatly designed sports car, I think, is the NSX by Acura. Corvettes are a perennial favorite--they look great and come in great colors as well as being head turners. If you want to get exotic and have unlimited funds, look at the Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Good luck!

You could argue that for hours, debating which one is fastest, best-looking, etc., which are all subjective. But my vote goes to the Porsche 911, in all it's forms over the years. It's always been quick, relatively reliable, can be used as a daily driver, and the basic design hasn't changed in decades and still looks good.
