I've come across a reasonable restoration project, but the only pause i have is that somewhere down the line an owner replaced the original Chevy engine with a Ford 351C. I understand the difference between the 351C, M and W. What I don't understand are the potential issues with this engine & this transmission (assuming it's a Chevy tranny).

, if the original swap was done right . and you are a better judge of that, the truck is in front of you! determine if it is a ford trans ,or a Chevy with a adapter plate. how does it run , does the trans shift properly and check the trans fluid for a burnt smell or dark fluid. hell if it is in good shape keep it. true the Chevy is cheaper but now you have to yank out the 351c and buy a small block Chevy and trans if your truck has the ford trans in it. and fight putting the Chevy back in. if the 351c and trans are in good shape keep it! there easy to rebuild and they still have parts for them.that little 351c will haul ***. it was one of fords better ideas.they love to rev and have a cool exhaust note!and all things equal a 351c will smoke a 350 Chevy ask bob glidden or don nickelson or the roush brothers they won most of the races with them for quite a few years.

The Cleveland is a good strong ford engine made in the mid 60's to the early 70's usually used in the high perfomance cars of that era. Performance parts are still available by the plenty, and about the tranny it would most likly have the matching ford unless a proper mounting plate has been made and easily seen by looking under your truck. But a Ford is a Ford and a Chev is a Chev. Myself, I would find someone looking for the 351 (and it wouldn't be hard) and get yourself a good Chev 350.
