Wasps, hornets, etc do not have the barb on the stinger and can sting you many times. Bees only sting when they are threatened, you disturb their hive they will protect it and their queen and sting you, you start swatting at them they will probably sting you. Bees are actually fairly docile creatures and will not sting you and will leave you alone if you leave them alone.

Just my response to Little Bird's answer. Wasps also sting, just like a bee with a sharp point at it's hind end. The difference is that a bee can only sting once, leaving its stinger stuck into the victim's skin, pumping still more venom, while the bee goes off to die, somewhere. The wasp can sting again and again, as long as it wants.
