I can't stand it when people call anyone with dark skin an African-American.

1. No one calls me European American, just white.
2. They ignore the fact that not all dark skinned people are from African. My neighbors, for instance, are super dark and are from Antigua.

Political correctness has caused more racism than it's cured.

I would call someone that if they prefered it (assuming it applied). I have a politically correct (Caucasian American) friend here in Switzerland who has been stymied because she got used to saying African-American and most black people here are directly from Africa.

Then there was the white South African guy who moved to the stated and started calling himself African-American too.

I do believe super-dark Antiguans are of African descent as well.

Black does NOT equal African American! If they live here they are American!!!!!!!! Trying to specify what country we originated from is too complicated! Besides, if we only call Black people African-American's isn't that a little racist? Either you are an American or not!

I am old enough to have been *****, colored, Afro-American, black and, now, African American. For me it drives home the fact that I am an American. I'm a flag-wavin', US-lovin', American! And I find it insulting when people try to deny me of my American heritage.

To paraphrase Don King; "My people built this country. And I know my way around."

i say if they're going to be THAT politically correct, they may as well do it for everything.

*sings*
How much is that Canine-American in the window.....

Plants, animals, and people alike, should ALL be referred to by their "politically correct" names. Or if anything we should all go back to using our scientific Latin names. Genus Homo sapien. you know... like in the road runner and coyote Looney Tunes episodes... they'd pause while running in mid air and their scientific names would pop up under them.
Eternalii Famishus==> Wile E. Coyote
Acceleratii Incredibilus ==> Road Runner

I don't know, but if it persists, I demand everyone refer to me as German-Irish-Welsch-Scottish American.

I talk with my Black teacher about it and she said that's how it is.
It doesn't make sense.
