Most likely. The Templeton in Charlotte's Web was rat, literally in both ways, but he was a lovable rat for some quirky reason. If the "bad guy" in Commander in chief is named Templeton and has some of the personality traits of the rat Templeton, then it might not be a coinicdence. Templeton's an actual name but no one really uses it that often, and thank God.

No coincidence at all. But the name when said or heard does have a bad ring to it, you know connotation. Maybe that is why some names are used over others because of the way people are affected by them. The same is true for names which provoke a feeling of goodness and trust in a character or animal. Advertisers/merchandisers do it all the time. They not only test a product for it's effectiveness they also test out a myraid of names that will appeal to the consumer. We are all lab "rats" but not all of us are "Templeton's".

Perhaps it was based on the Knights Templar which was a order well that still exist but not as it once was, as I recall they fought in the crusades against of all people the Muslims in the Middle East. The Templar is a mysterious order that claims to have the Skull of Jesus Christ in its keeping.
