Things that cause stress at the moment:
- Have moved to a new town to be with my partner of 4 years, we're both 21 (highschool sweethearts).
- I feel so isolated here (population 300ppl)
- I'm living on a farm and have my whole life, but never on a farm this far (1hr & half) away from friends and family.
- My family has fallen apart bcos mum's causing chaos.
- Stress of actually having this unplanned pregnancy.
- Left an fantastic job at Ford so I could live here, but feel I haven't gained anything, (apart from seeing my b/friend everyday)
-Am unemployed and living off partner, something I never wanted to happen, I feel guilty bcos I am so independent and it's not like he's earning a tonne each week anyway.
-I want to study nursing next year, and I'm going to have to put that off.

Everything's just so stressful. :(

No, that is an old wives' tale that is currently still thought to be true by many people. Same with falling. A fall will NOT cause a miscarriage (I fell completely off a chair and landed on my stomach my first trimester), but is a myth made popular by soap operas and recently, Desperate Housewives.

Miscarriages that occur during stressful times are coincidences. They are caused by a genetic defect, developmental defect, or environmental defect (such as exposure to toxins, certain illnesses and germs, or something that is not right in the uterine environmnet). Stress alone will not cause a miscarriage.

I wish I could remember my source, but it has been about 6 months since I have read that.

The best answer I can give you is that no one really knows. Most reasons for miscarriage are unknown, and modern science has only honed in on a few causes. But stress, of course, does not help. Being in the best of health is all that you can do, and stress raises the levels of cortisol in your blood, the stress hormone. Stress is the cause for ALL kinds of problems, so avoiding it is best, especially during pregnancy.

Stress is very powerful, so just try to relax. If you must work at 100 mph because of your job or because you have a very busy life, try to use some relaxation techniques throughout the day, such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga. You can only do so much to decrease the amount of stress you experience on a day to day basis, but anything you do will help. Don't sweat the small stuff, and don't assume you are at risk for miscarriage. Think happy, healthy thoughts and try to cast aside irrational fears. This is one of the most exciting times in your life, so everything else that is going on should come second. Daily annoyances and setbacks that cause stress should be dwarfed by the miraculous nature of your situation. Just think about how wonderful it is, creating new life. (Sorry to be sappy, but this is how I truly feel! :)

This is the best advice I can give you. I hope it helps. Congratulations on your pregnancy and best of luck.

If severe enough yes. In the 1st 3 months everything is risky. So be careful. Any simple little fall or being under stress of any kind could be fatal. Just try to relax and take a break. I know being pregnant can be stressful due to family and others, but just remember this is your baby and nothing else matters. Do not let others or things stress you out. Just protect that baby and ignore everything stressful for now.

It's hard to prove, most of the time you never know what causes a miscarriage. I think that unless it's a chromosonal abnormality that can be fixed for the next pregnancy I would't want to know...it's nobodys fault usually, just nature doing it's thing.

Stress has never been a proven cause of miscarriage. Just take it easy and take deep breaths when things get tough.
