Its been really hot for the past 10 days in London. A smell very strong is coming from the back of the hotpoint fridge. There's a container full of murky , stinky brown water which needs emptying.

How do I do it? I can't remove the container. I need to replace the water I think.

is it safe to do this? The pump I think is just above and is marked dangerous, you might die.

would you try emptyimg this?

Un-plug the refrigerator. Use a sponge and bucket to bail the water from the pan. Then clean the pan with soap and water. Then add a small amount of water to the pan. This is the collection pan for the humidity inside your refrigerator (frost free) the heat from the compressor evaporates the water and in turn cools the compressor. Some food particles must have gotten into the drain and spoiler. Then plug it back in when you are through.

Remove front grill and slide out pan. the pan gets defrost water in it every day. The heat from the condenser evaporates it. Some pans are bolted to the top of the compressor. Do not attempt to remove. Clean it in place. Cleaning it once a year is adequate.

Sounds like the over flow from the defrosting. I think you're OK to empty it, clean it good with bleach (to get rid of the smell and bacteria) and put it back. Try not to let it get as bad next time and you can simply keep up on emptying it. But I might be misunderstanding the question, so don't quote me on it. LOL.

Couldn't you unplug it before trying to touch or empty the container?

I'm not familiar with your particular refrigerator, but I don't see the harm in unplugging it for a minute or two, to empty the container.

call someone who works on fridges, tell them the problem. they will either tell you what you need to do, or send someone over to fix it.
