Donny Hathaway & Roberta Flack's "The Closer I Get to You". Donny Hathaway has some beautiful songs, in general. Pretty much any Babyface production would make the list too. Stevie Wonder, Jon B., Dru Hill, Xscape, Monifah, Brian McKnight, Daniel Bedingfield, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Tamia, Chante Moore, Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Kenny Latimore, Mariah Carey (pre-Emancipation, especially) all have wonderful love songs. There are too many great romantic songs to really ever make a comprehensive list of them all.

That song you mentioned by The Hollies is a great song, by the way. I always liked "Father Figure" by George Michael. I was devastated when I found out he was gay, but I still like the lyrics of that song. "If you are the desert, I'll be the sea. If you ever hunger, hunger for me. Whatever you ask for, that's what I'll be", and it goes on and on with some beautiful lyrics. It just turns me off a bit to think George was thinking about another man when he wrote it. Oh well.

Mine would have to be GRACE

As we gather in the chapel here in Old Kilmainham Jail
I think about these past few days, oh will they say we've failed
From our schooldays they have told us we must yearn for liberty
Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here wlth me

Chorus:
Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger,
They take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye

Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand
the love I bear for these brave men, my love for this dear land
But when Padhraic called me to his side down in the GPO
I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go

Chorus

Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too
On this May morn as I walk out my thoughts will be of you
And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone wlll know
I love so much that I could see his blood upon the rose

Its a song written to his Bride by one of the leaders of the Irish 1916 Rising from his prison Cell on the morning he is executed.
Its a sad song but also one that shows just what Love can mean.
