Your opinion, bub.
I really admire nice tattoos (as opposed to trashy/badly done skin art). Decorating your body is a tradition as old as human life. It can enhance your looks, mark passages in your life, show off a subculture affiliation, or just make you smile.
If you don't like tattoos, that's fine, no one's insisting you need to get one. Every time you sneer and look down at a woman with some ink, someone like me will be there to smile and give her the thumbs up.

Thank you for your opinion. I don't believe anyone has ever compared me to such a work of art as the Mona Lisa. If you were to meet me, I doubt that you would make that comparison to my face.
I have 5 tattoos. My most recent one I got a week ago. For me, it is not so much the final product I am attracted to as the act itself. Sitting in that chair, hering the buzz of the artists' gun and feeling the needles go in over and over again. It is exhilerating. Secondly, I do enjoy the art that has been stuck inside mt skin. It is an interesting canvas and takes skill to master. Da Vinci's Mona Lisa never moved while he was painting. She did not squirm, jerk or sneeze in the process. My tattoos are beautiful. I appreciate the artist who took the extra care to make sure they would look good. They all have different meanings to me and I am anxious to see how they change as I grow older and change as well. I do not feel cheapened by this artwork. It makes me feel good. No one else has the same tattoos I have. If they have similar tattoos, they are in different spots.
Tattoos are beautiful. So are the people who have them.
thank you.

the question should be, why judge someone by their appearance?
does ink really cheapen a person's soul?
does personal modification interfere with abilities and skills?
we are constantly evolving. that beautiful woman you see, may dye her hair. she may use make-up, even if not visible. she may put on plastic nails. she may use bronzing cream or go to a tanning salon. etc...............................
who are you to say that having a tattoo is crossing the line in self modification? if you don't like it, don't get one. if you don't want your girlfriend to have one, well good luck. there's still some women out there who don't have any.

so i guess pierced ears, makeup, jewellery, dyed hair, haircuts, manicured nails and shaved faces, legs, armpits, etc all cheapen people. they are all forms of modification of the way we are naturally made. just because tattoos are permanent doesn't make them any worse than any of our temporary modifications. i, along with everyone else, was born naked. perhaps modifying my appearance with my different clothing choices also cheapens me.
there are many cultures that use tattooing, scarring and other forms of body modification as rites of passage or to identify themselves as members of their tribes, among various other reasons. no gimmick and it doesn't change who or what they are. there's really no difference between them and the rest of us.
it all depends on each individual's point of view and your being judgmental about it will never change it anyway.

I happen to have 2 tattoo's and i dont think they cheapen me.. how far do you want to take it... if modifying you look is cheapening youself then doesnt very woman who uses, make-up or styles/dyes her hair cheapen herself, pierces her ears, wears clothing that hides certain lumps and bumps, a push-up bra? just how far does it go?
I happen to love my 2 tattoos, i i designed myself and i was drawing it and playing with it for years, its very difinitive of me, and the other one means something to me... i have 1 more to get, with my sisters and godsons names in it... but i just havent finished drawing it...
if you think changing your appearance cheapens you then why do you wear clothes and shave your underarms and legs, or pluck your eyebrows?
