Not totally sure, but I am guessing, since Hemmingway was a writer... that "you've found someone who really has a way with words"... but if they said this sarcastically it could mean the person has no way with words.

I'd guess it means that you've either got a closet gay guy (as some believe Hemmingway was).... that you've got yourself a severe alcoholic (as so many of the best writers back in the day seemed to be)... or it could mean that the person you are with does not have a way with words (when spoken in a sarcastic tone)

I think someone's being sarcastic and and saying you're hooked up with an idiot. (Hemingway would refer to a smart person and the sarcasm makes it the opposite)

It could refer to a talent for writing, but most likely it refers to Hemingway's excessive drinking and depression that eventually led to his suicide.

well...Hemingway was what you could call a man's man. He liked bullfighting, boxing, hunting...all the manly sports. Then again, he also killed himself.
