people seem to hate him for some reason. i certainly dont but heres my theory on why some do....
1. they are jealous that he is a talented football player
2. they are jealous that he has endorsement deals and gets paid TONS
3. they are jealous that he models
4. they are jealous that he is GORGEOUS!!!
5. they are jealous that hes 21 years old and has accomplished more in life that many people will EVER
makes sense to me. i still like him though.

Besides what happened with Roney, Ronaldo and many in the Portuguese teams deployed a tactic of diving. This cost Ronaldo in the FIFA best young player at the World Cup. Its called fair play. You don't 'dive' to gain an advantage, and its sad because he does have the talent to beat players on his own.
Ronaldo also tends to run alone with the ball and isolate himself with his head down while pushing forward and excludes his team mates from the game.
Great player who needs to season his game, he will be a great footballer is he can see beyond his immaturity.
and audiences at the world cup tend not to be jealous, but rather understand fair play. Thus the whistles whenever he touches the ball. In the game today vs Germany, at the 40th minute his clearly dove after not being touched and appealed for a foul. He did the same against France in the box hoping to win a penalty.
Thus why today the booing was intensified.

England is very proud of his national soccer team. It is a team with the most skilled players in one team. Seriously! However, it was not enough for qualifying for semi-finals. So their pride is a little hurt.
As for the incident between Rooney and Ronaldo. It does not really matter what Ronaldo said. The referee would not give a player a red card without any reason or because Ronaldo said so. Give the referee more freakin credit!!!!
Ronaldo is still young. I am a fan of his, but i have to admit he needs to concentrate more on making a goal and teamwork rather than showing off his footwork during the game for photo ops. I agree with the press and other fans on that one. However, he is still very young, he'll learn and will take in all this criticism. It'll be good for him to not only be celebrated as a football pop-star with a cute face in magazines and such, but will show off his real and whole potential that he has on the field. Hopefully once UEFA comes around in 2008!!!

i suppose because people hate cheats in general. frankly, i don't know why other people don't see him for what he is esp. some of his so-called fans here. is it okay to cheat as long as you're famous, got loads of money, good looks, pedigree, etc? i don't think so. i'm not british, i don't know rooney well enough to like or dislike him, and i have nothing against portugal as i haven't been following their matches until after the elimination round. except for zizou whom i admire since 1998, i'm not a follower of france either. but i saw what i saw in that game with england and esp. the match with france and i was disgusted as any decent human being would at how ronaldo and the 2 other players (the one who tripped henry and pauleta i think) did their dirty tricks just to gain an advantage over the other team. that's not how football should be played, is it? this guy has singlehandedly tainted the game and ruined the world cup for a lot of people. i won't even go into that incident with rooney and that "wink and a smile" except to say that being team mates in Man U, he should have acted more gallantly and refrained from interfering with the referee. but then who ever said that manners and breeding can be bought?

I dont really know myself but it could possibly be due to the recent controversy between him and Wayne Rooney where England lost to Portugal in penalties and where Rooney was sent off by a Red Card after seemingly over zealous with his tackle with another Portugal player and then when C. Ronaldo came over to tell the referee to give Rooney a yellow card for his foul, Rooney either on purpose or out of added anger pushed him in front of the referee. This is probably what makes some people dislike C.Ronaldo lately. I could be wrong of course?

Hey this is football here...I don't care if the guy looks good or not, if he models and make tons of $$.
On the field, he's an arrogant little brat, he's a cheater, a diver, a whinner because he doesn't have enough talent to be one of the "Greats".
I hope he'll humble a little, and take some lessons from Zidane.
He's Brazilian, why doesn't he play for Brazil, if he's so good?
And you he's playing at Manchester with Rooney...I wouldn't like to be Ronaldo when he'll have to go back to England...

They hate him because he whines more than he hogs the ball, and most of the time you arent sure if hes playing futbol or practicing for the Portugese Diving Squad. He is very talented, but there is no such thing as a one man team, and unless he learns that, his talent means nothing.

i only heard the fans boo him in the France vs Portugal game. and that is because of the previous incidence when he was pleading with the referee to give Rooney a red card.
Even the news papers called him defiant cz he continued playing well despite the crowds. He is also thinking of leaving Man U
